I’m not big on doing things that are a total waste of time. That’s why I don’t understand the folks who, each year, insist on declaring a Cup champion based on the point standings from the pre-playoff days.
Really?
What purpose does that serve? Or more importantly, what does it prove>
First of all, it’s a system that has been in place for nearly a quarter-of-a-century. In fact, there’s not a driver currently competing who drove under the old system.
But, even more absurd in calculating champions under the “old system” is that teams compete in a way that maximize their chances of winning the championship under the current system. They may sacrifice accumulating points for trying things that could give them an edge when it comes to the playoffs.
In short, if you have that much time to kill, I’m sure there are things you can find that would be more valuable for mankind than coming up with a list that means nothing.
