Austin Dillon did what he had to do to win.  Agree with his methods or not, it’s as simple as that.

Personally, I think he crossed the line.  He never even attempted to pass Joey Logano, he just plowed right through him, then he turned Denny Hamlin.

But, while I’m not crazy about his method, I applaud him for doing whatever it took for him to get the win.

This is the system that NASCAR has created with the “win and you’re in” playoffs.  Sitting 32nd in points, a win was the only was Dillon was making the playoffs.  This was his chance and he took it.

More specifically, he took it, maybe more aggressively than he should have, but he did it.  And, in doing so, he forced the referee to make a call; and they swallowed the whistle.

Dillon put NASCAR in a tough spot.  But, that’s not his problem.  His job is to win races and make the playoffs; within the rules.  Until someone tells him otherwise, and it took three days for someone to tell him otherwise.  Now he, and the rest of the garage, know just how far they can go in trying to steal a playoff spot.
