The 2024 Cup regular season will be remembered as one of the craziest ever. If NASCAR were to draw up an ideal finish to the regular season, it would probably look a lot like the one we just had; and we’d all say it was too “Hollywood”. There’s no way it would happen in reality.
I mean, think about this. Two weeks ago, who had Harrison Burton and Chase Briscoe on their playoff Bingo cards? And, they made it at the expense of a couple of guys, Chris Buescher and Ross Chastain, who at the start of the summer, we thought were locks. And, a guy in Bubba Wallace who has been red hot for two months.
Then, there was the race for the regular season title, which has ping-ponged between four different drivers and ended up being decided by one point. One point!
And, just in case you hadn’t noticed, parity ended up reigning when all was said and done. The playoff field consists of 5 Chevys, 5 Toyotas and 6 Fords.
I look forward to seeing how the playoffs can top all that.
